Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are Dating
Twilight is about the hottest film franchise in Hollywood right now – and it’s leading couple Kristen Steward and heart throb Robert Pattinson share an on-screen dynamic that has led many to suspect that the two are sharing more than a script.
Those rumors were finally confirmed today when Pattinson reluctantly informed The Sun that “It is extremely difficult but we are together, yes.”
Despite that, the pair recently turned up for the British Academy Film and Television Awards – aka the BAFTAS – separately, setting tongues wagging as to whether the fledgling romance was already in trouble.
Pattinson explained the apparent separation, saying: “we can’t arrive at the same time because of the fans. It goes crazy. This was supposed to be a public appearance as a couple, but it’s impossible.”
This reluctance to appear together is perhaps understandable. Dating is hard enough for private individuals who have to overcome the hurdles of a first date and the personal awkwardness of becoming part of each others lives. Now picture trying to do all that under the watchful eye of the world’s media, when every public utterance is pored and scraped over and even the act of getting out of a car is a major news story.
So their decision to keep things as private as possible is understandable. Hollywood couples have a long history of crumbling under the pressure of fame and scrutiny. They also have a habit of just… happening anyway. After all, during the making of a film, two super-attractive people spend much of their days acting out an intense love affair, sharing working quarters and dressing rooms and working together in a very intimate way.
The intensity of these relationships often spreads across into real life – think of Brad and Angelina – who made the leap from Mr & Mrs Smith to being Mr & Mrs Pitt in a few short months – despite already having established relationships (Angelina’s appetite for having affairs is legendary, but Pitt’s reputation was more honorable!) That keeps fans flocking to the movies to see the chemistry at work.
But it is that very attention that sounds the death-knell for celebrity couples. We wish them well, of course, but wouldn’t be surprised if their very public attempt at dating each other ultimately crumbles.
